Summer 2020 looks to be one of loose flowing clothing that oozes cool. The warmer months are always a time to experiment with new looks and combinations – and it’s the only time to rock big, bold patterns. So, what will everyone be wearing this year?
Cuban collar shirts
Enjoy the warm summer breeze in a stylish Cuban collar shirt. With its distinctive collar and short sleeves, this is a uber-cool statement piece with a nod to the 1980s which is a decade that’s heavily influencing modern fashion. Choose a bold print or a solid color but know that this is the star of the show and everything else must complement the shirt for this look to work. So, be brave and experiment with bright shades like yellow, blue or green. Complete the look with chinos and sunglasses.
Continuing the trend of going back to the ‘80s, oversized blazers are in. Give your modern wardrobe a dose of retro with a big, powerful blazer that dominates the look without appearing too formal. Go for a bold color or a pattern; after all, this is a jacket that demands to be noticed. The trick to getting this right is to make sure that it’s big, but that it fits properly. Simply buying a size too big will not do. It can be tricky to get right but, by taking it to your tailor to make necessary adjustments, you can strut your stuff in style. Paired with a plain tee and jeans, this look is going to be huge this year.
More formal and less showy, a slightly looser suit is an option if you want to fit in rather than stand out. And this year, formal suits are paired with sneakers and a plain white tee for the ultimate in laid-back style. Just remember this is a casual look and not one for the office.
High waisted pants
They’re back. High waisted pants have hit the fashion shows again and this time they come in neutral colors. This incarnation is about style, not boldness so khaki, stone and other natural shades are the way to go. If you want to add a splash of color, go for a mid-blue. Perfect when paired with a tucked-in tee or a natural shade of shirt/sweater that complements the pants.
Loose clothing tends not to have as many pockets as other options, but you still need to keep your valuables safe. So why not go for a stylish cross-body bag. Compact and neat these are an ideal way to store belongings and will jazz up any summer outfit.
